One of the earliest to rise here at Metro Water Recovery, the Facilities Maintenance Grounds crew begins their day at the Robert W. Hite Treatment Facility at 5:30 a.m. The small but mighty team of five has coined themselves the “A-Team of the whole facility” as they are responsible for general grounds maintenance of the 198-acre advanced treatment facility. This includes event support, landscaping and grass care, litter removal, project support, snow removal, and more.

With more than 40 years of combined Metro Water Recovery experience, this team is a special one. They’re efficient, creative, talented, and truly love working together. For team lead, Adrian, it’s about cultivating an environment for his team to flourish. He says, “ultimately, I want to be a different type of leader. I want my team to be happy here so they can do the best they can, and I can do the best I can.”

The team uses best management practices to create a safe, healthy, and sustainable work environment. Larry Speltz says he appreciates “the freedom to make the facility look good” and takes pride in being able to solve just about any problem that arises.

Together, they minimize the impacts of maintenance activities on the quality of work life for all employees and guests. True assets to any employee in need, for this team it’s all about doing a little bit of everything and having knowledge in just about anything.
