Metro Selects 2024 Board Chair Winner

Metro Water Recovery has named Stan Thurber, Industrial Maintenance Supervisor, as Metro’s 2024 Board Chair Award Winner. Board Chair Sarah Niyork presented the award during the December 17 Board of Directors meeting. Nominations for Stan were submitted by coworkers in the Operations and Maintenance Departments.

The Board Chair’s Award recognizes Metro employees for consistently exceeding job expectations, working to meet department and division objectives, and collaborating with coworkers to complete tasks and create a positive work environment. The selection process for the annual award begins with employees nominating their peers. A panel that then narrows the nominations to the top three includes the Director of Human Resources and two additional Department Heads, with the Board Chair making the final selection.

Stan started at Metro in November 2009 as a Plant Operator; he was promoted to Environmental Health & Safety Specialist in 2013, Facilities Maintenance Supervisor in 2016, and Industrial Maintenance Supervisor in 2023. During this time, he has consistently gone above and beyond to accommodate, support, and execute work at the plant. Most often on moment’s notice with short staff.

He demonstrates extreme ownership of his work and makes sure all projects are performed and supported in a timely and safe matter. This ownership is reflected in his work and the work of his crews. Stan shows all the traits we value at Metro: Collaboration, Excellence, Inclusion, and Integrity.

As the Industrial Maintenance Supervisor, Stan’s issued some of the most demanding assignments at Metro. No matter the task, he is right alongside his team. He consistently goes above and beyond at Metro, displaying exceptional merit and accomplishment on a consistent, long-term basis in both attitude and performance.

Stan does not hesitate to offer training and guidance to any staff member. In fact, new plant operators and operators in training have received additional training and insights into plant dynamics and industrial maintenance events. Stan is resource of knowledge for all.

Stan Thurber is the 13th recipient of the Board Chair’s Award and his name has been added to an award plaque located in the lobby of the Administration Building at the Robert W. Hite Treatment Facility.
