Metro Receives National Award for Interactive Website
Transforming How You Think About Wastewater
DENVER, Colo. – Metro Water Recovery (Metro) received a 2023 National Environmental Achievement Award from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies for its interactive webpage: How We Transform Wastewater.
The interactive tool offers different levels of engagement options – from a high-level process awareness to a technical understanding of wastewater treatment. The webpage supports Metro’s multifaceted efforts to educate communities about who we are, what we do and how we are helping to close the gap between a highly technical industry and the use of everyday water.
“Our goal is to provide easy to understand information about what happens to their water after it goes down the sink, toilet, or drain,” said Muzit Kiflai, senior continuous improvement manager, Metro Water Recovery. “Our platform serves as an informative and educational tool for everyone.”
The webpage walks the viewer through a step-by-step process of the wastewater treatment cycle, including the reintroduction of clean water into the South Platte River. It also provides critical information about resource recovery, energy optimization, capital investments, and regulations that impact Metro.
“Educators use the webpage as an extension to in-person tours and virtual classroom experiences,” said Colleen Miller, public information specialist, Metro Water Recovery. “Oftentimes, the class is studying the water cycle more in-depth and would like additional information on specific subjects like nutrient reduction, pathogen removal and so much more.”
